Coaching Performance

One of the most critical skills of the supervisor is the ability to coach and improve employee performance.    Participants in this course will identify situations that may indicate a need for performance coaching.  Supervisors will learn an effective process for conducting and documenting coaching sessions and discuss situations that require formal discipline.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe how employee performance indicates supervisor effectiveness.

  • List common employee performance problems.

  • Determine when to coach performance.

  • Outline the steps utilized in coaching performance.

  • Demonstrate the use of the coaching process.

  • Formulate documentation to support performance goals and outcomes.

  • Recognize the importance and identify examples of positive reinforcement in improving employee performance.
     
  • Formulate measureable performance improvement goals and associated documentation.

  • Evaluate when discipline is warranted.

  • Understand the consequences to the institution of not coaching and/or using discipline as needed.
