Role of the Supervisor

This full-day course will analyze the role and activities of a supervisor as they relate to accountability to team members and to the institution.  Participants will assess alignment between departmental activities and institutional goals.  Supervisors will identify ways to support employee development and measure department and employee performance.  Class discussion will examine the authority of the supervisor and the various ways in which the supervisor represents his or her organization.

  • Identify professional behavior of a supervisor.

  • Identify and list the activities of a supervisor.

  • Categorize activities according to the supervisor’s major roles.

  • Explain the role of a supervisor, as it relates to leadership and the facilitation of activities that empower employees.

  • Compare/contrast departmental and institutional mission and goals.

  • Identify ways to support employee development and performance.

  • Illustrate how employee performance can be measured.

  • Explain the authority and accountability of a supervisor.

  • Describe the different ways in which a supervisor represents his or her organization.
