Teaching in a Clinical Setting

Teaching clinical in the healthcare professions requires different roles and strategies than utlized in the traditional classroom. The complex atmosphere in the clnical area challenges the most skilled profession. Not only must the instructor act as a care giver and instructor, but must insure patient safety, manage time efficiently, and interact with multiple healthcare professionals while meeting the patient's needs and learning outcomes. Explore what makes clinical instruction different than that given in the classroom. Identify the roles of the clinical instructor and areas for individual improvement. Practice and refine the methods of feedback utilized while in the clinical setting.

  • Evaluate the roles of the clinical instructor as they apply to your practice.
